SMCC Beach Volleyball Splits Match-Ups with Mesa CC, GCU Club Team

The South Mountain Community College beach volleyball team fell 3-2 to Mesa CC on April 15 and defeated the GCU Club Team 5-0 on April 16 in its final two matches of the 2022 spring season. Against the Thunderbirds, Nikole Lunsford and Madison Marcotte posted a straight-set victory as the No. 4 pairs, and Leilani Clark and Lauren Castro won as the No. 5 pairs. In the season finale against the Antelopes, all five Cougar pairs were successful as the program celebrated its second season of competition.
Mesa CC Recap
The Cougars and Thunderbirds met for the second time in 2022 and Mesa CC posted a 3-2 victory to split the season series.
Lunsford and Marcotte won 21-19 and 21-16 as the No. 4 pairs, and Clark and Castro won via forefit.
However, Mesa CC won the top three pairs to win the contest.
GCU Club Team
The Cougars swept the Antelopes in the final match of the season, winning in straight sets in all five matches.
Mckenna Androsky and Sienna Cumbie won 21-14 and 21-17 as the No. 1 pairs, Kristine Garcia and Emily Wilson were successful as the No. 2 pairs (21-11, 22-20), and Cadden and Claire Burford won as the No. 3 pairs 21-13 and 21-18.
Lunsford and Clark won the No. 4 pairs match 21-11 and 21-11, and Castro and Marcotte teamed for a 21-11 and 21-16 match as the No. 5 pairs.
