The South Mountain Community College men’s basketball team had strong showings from its sophomores throughout the 2019-20 season. The Cougars finished the year 11-19 overall and 7-15 in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference play.
Makael Rainbow Named Third Team All-ACCAC and Second Team All-Region I

South Mountain Community College men’s basketball sophomore Makael Rainbow earned Third Team All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and All-Region I Division II Second Team honors, the league office announced on Feb. 26. Rainbow averaged 15.1 points per game and concluded his Cougar career with a career-high 49 points in a win over Mesa Community College.
SMCC Men’s Hoops Rallies on Sophomore Night to Defeat Mesa CC

Down 10 points at halftime, the South Mountain Community College men’s basketball team defeated Mesa Community College 95-94 Tuesday night. Sophomore Makael Rainbow scored a career-high 49 points and added five rebounds, five assists and seven steals as the Cougars knocked off the Thunderbirds in both teams’ final Arizona Community Conference Athletic Conference regular-season game of the season.
SMCC Men’s Hoops Defeats Tohono O’odham CC in ACCAC Action

The South Mountain Community College men’s basketball team (10-19) defeated Tohono O’odham CC 87-76 in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference game on Feb. 22. The Cougars also produced some strong performances in contests with Pima Community College (Feb. 15) and Cochise College (Feb. 19).
Cougar Men’s Basketball Falls to Arizona Western

The South Mountain Community College men’s basketball team lost 83-50 to Arizona Western Wednesday in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest on the SMCC campus. Kareem Clark led the Cougars with 18 points and four assists, but the Matadors shot 53.7 percent from the field to secure the victory.
Cougar Men’s Hoops Clipped by Central Arizona

The South Mountain Community College men’s basketball team lost 66-55 to Central Arizona College on Feb. 8 in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. Freshman Anthony Jaramillo led the Cougars with 15 points while freshman Christian Allen added 14 points in defeat.
Glendale CC Edges South Mountain Community College Men’s Hoops

The South Mountain Community College men’s basketball team lost 81-77 to Glendale Community College Wednesday night in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest at SMCC. Sophomore Kareem Clark led the Cougars with 28 points on 11 of 18 shooting, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range.
