Cougar Men’s Hoops Clipped by Central Arizona

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team lost 66-55 to Central Arizona College on Feb. 8 in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. Freshman Anthony Jaramillo led the Cougars with 15 points while freshman Christian Allen added 14 points in defeat.

The Vaqueros held a 36-28 lead at halftime and posted a 30-27 advantage in the second half. SMCC shot an even 38 percent (19 of 50) from the field but connected on 47.1 percent (8 of 17) from 3-point range.

Jaramillo finished 5 of 13 from the field and 3 of 9 from deep in 25 minutes of action to raise his scoring average to 11.1 points per game. The performance marked the 14th time Jaramillo has reached double figures in his rookie campaign, and he scored a season-high 26 points at Central Arizona College on Dec. 11.

Allen went 5 of 8 from the field and 2 of 4 from 3-point range in 25 minutes of work. He added three rebounds to his final tally, and he has scored in double figures eight times this season. Allen has finished with a season-high 16 points on two occasions.

Kareem Clark, Johnathan Hunter and Isaac Garcia all connected on 3-pointers for the Cougars. Brandon Savage had a team-high six rebounds while Cody Carmichael dished out a team-high four assists. Clark had seven points, five rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes.

The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 12, when they host Arizona Western College at 7:30 p.m.
