Cecil Belisle, Sean Markham Earn Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Honors

South Mountain Community College men's golf sophomores Cecil Belisle and Sean Markham received 2022 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors for their work in the classroom in the 2021-22 academic year. The sophomores had to receive their Associate's Degree, were in their last year of athletic eligibility, participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, maintain a stroke average under 77.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
SMCC Golf Congratulates Four-Year Transfers for 2022-23

The South Mountain Community College men's and women's golf programs and head coach Chelsea Carroll would like to congratulate Sean Markham (Sonoma State University), Cecil Belisle (University of Kansas) and Emma Fisher (William Woods University) as they continue their intercollegiate golf careers at four-year institutions for the upcoming 2022-23 academic year. Belisle and Markham earned All-American honors and helped lead the Cougars to the 2022 NJCAA Division II National Championship, while Fisher helped re-launch the SMCC women's program as the squad participated at the 2022 NJCAA Southwest District Championships.
Forty-Three SMCC Student-Athletes Earn 2021-22 NJCAA All-Academic Honors

A total of 43 South Mountain Community College student-athletes earned 2021-22 NJCAA All-Academic honors for their work in the classroom. The SMCC women's golf team received NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors after posting a cumulative 3.65 team GPA, and the Cougars had 10 student-athletes earn First Team awards after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
SMCC Golf, Softball team up to host 2022 Cougar Golf Classic

The South Mountain Community College men's golf, women's golf and softball programs have teamed up to host the 2022 Cougar Golf Classic Saturday, Aug. 13, at Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix. The four-person scramble will have a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start, and all proceeds will benefit the SMCC golf and softball programs.
Making History: Chelsea Carroll Becomes First Woman Head Coach to Lead a Men's Team to a National Title

South Mountain Community College men's golf head coach Chelsea Carroll made history in 2022 when she became the first woman to lead a men's team to an NJCAA National Championship as the Cougars captured the 2022 NJCAA DII Title. For her efforts, she received the 2022 Dave Williams NJCAA National Coach of the Year honors.
Cecil Belisle Wins 2022 NJCAA Jack Nicklaus Award

Sophomore Cecil Belisle of the South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the 2022 NJCAA Jack Nicklaus Award and received the trophy from the award's namesake at The Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Course in Dublin, Ohio, on June 5. The 2021 and 2022 NJCAA Division II individual National Champion, Belisle helped lead SMCC to a team National Championship in 2022, the eighth in program history.
Chelsea Carroll Named 2022 Dave Williams NJCAA National Coach of the Year

South Mountain Community College men's and women's golf head coach Chelsea Carroll earned 2022 Dave Williams NJCAA National Coach of the Year Award presented by Golf Pride Grips, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced. Carroll led the Cougar Men's squad to the 2022 NJCAA Division II National Championship and guided the Cougar women to a berth in the NJCAA Southwest District Championships and a national ranking at the end of the 2022 season.

Channel 12 Sports, an NBC affiliate in Phoenix, featured the South Mountain Men's Golf program, the 2022 NJCAA Division II National Champions, on its Sunday night show "12 Sports Tonight." Anchor Cameron Cox spoke with SMCC head coach Chelsea Carroll and student-athletes Cecil Belisle, Sean Markham, Ethan Klose and Jando Hernandez about the team winning both the individual (Belisle) and team national championships and Carroll becoming the first woman in NJCAA history to lead a men's program to a National Championship.

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the NJCAA Division II National Championship at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin, Mo., May 17-20. The Cougars finished the four-day tournament at +31 to defeat Mississippi Gulf Coast CC and Tyler Junior College by 19 strokes and capture the eighth National Championship in SMCC men's golf program history. Individually, sophomore Cecil Belisle won his second-straight National Championship and claimed Individual Medalist honors by finishing at even-par over the 72 holes to defeat his nearest rival by three strokes.
Trio of Cougars Earn NJCAA Division II PING All-American Honors

South Mountain Community College men's golf student-athletes Cecil Belisle, Sean Markham and Ethan Klose earned NJCAA Division II PING All-American honors for their work on the course during the 2022 spring season. Belisle and Markham earned First Team honors, Klose received Second Team honors and the three also earned All-West District honors.

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the NJCAA Region I Division II Championship at Corte Bella Golf Course in Sun City West, Ariz., April 28-May 1. Sophomore Cecil Belisle took home individual medalist honors for the second-straight year, finishing at -7 (277) and turning in four rounds under-par. Freshman Ethan Klose placed second, and sophomore Sean Markham was fifth as SMCC won for the seventh time this spring and advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Championships at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin, Mo., May 9-12.
Cougars, Markham Capture Paradise Valley Classic Titles

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won its sixth 2022 spring tournament by capturing the Paradise Valley Classic April 18-19 at Hillcrest Golf Course in Sun City West, Ariz. The Cougars finished at 26-under, 550 with a pair of 13-under, 275 rounds. Individually, sophomore Sean Markham won his second-straight tournament and claimed Individual Medalist honors at nine-under, 135.
Markham Captures Individual Medalist, SMCC Men's Golf Wins Estrella Mountain Invite

Sophomore Sean Markham won individual medalist honors, and the South Mountain Community College men's golf team claimed the Estrella Mountain Invite on April 9-10 at Tres Rios Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. Markham carded a five-under, 66 in the second round to move up eight spots on the leaderboard and record his first tournament victory. The Cougars won the team competition by 22 strokes for their fifth spring win.
Men's Golf Wins Fourth Spring Tournament; Belisle Claims Individual Medalist

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the Gaucho Spring Shootout Mar. 20-21 at Corte Bella Golf Club in Sun City West, Ariz. On the par-71 golf course, the Cougars captured the team title by 15 strokes over the Glendale CC at +11 (579) for the two days. Individually, Cecil Belisle won his first spring tournament with a one-under, 141 for the event's two days.
Cougar Men's Golf Captures Eastern Arizona Invite

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the Eastern Arizona Invite Mar. 7-8 at Mt. Graham Golf Club in Thatcher, Ariz. The Cougars carded rounds of two-under, 286 and three-over, 291 to defeat second-place Paradise Valley CC by nine strokes. Individually, Cecil Belisle led SMCC with a third-place finish, Ethan Klose placed fifth, and Zachary Erskine and Sean Markham tied for ninth to help lift the Cougars to the tournament title.
