Cecil Belisle, SMCC Men's Golf Win Park University Fall Invite

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the Park University Fall Invite by eight strokes, and sophomore Cecil Belisle claimed individual medalist honors by one stroke at Superstition Springs Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz., on Sept. 13-14. Belisle finished at four-under, 212 and carded a two-under, 70 in the final round of the event, while the Cougars finished at seven-over, 871 to win their second fall tournament.

The tournament consisted of 36 holes on the first day and 18 holes on the second. SMCC held a three-stroke lead over Embry-Riddle University and then posted an even-par 288 as a team to extend its final advantage to eight strokes. Earlier this fall, the Cougars won the Gaucho AZ Fall Classic at the GCU Golf Course.

Belisle, the 2021 NJCAA Division II National Championship individual medalist, opened with two rounds of one-under, 71, on the first day. He was even par on the tournament's par-3 holes, three-under on the par-4 holes and one-under on the par-5 holes. He carded 10 birdies and 38 pars for the event.

Sophomore Jake Carlson finished fifth at the event with a three-over, 219 for the three rounds. He was at one-over after the first 36 holes and finished with two-over, 74 on the final day. He had nine birdies over the three rounds and won the Gaucho AZ Fall Classic in SMCC's first tournament of the 2021 fall.

Freshman Zachary Erskine tied for seventh at five-over, 221. He posted an opening-round score of 78 and then rebounded with rounds of 72 and 71. He had a tournament-high 42 pars for the tournament.

Freshman Miles Gray finished 13th at seven-over, 223. He too opened with a six-over, 78, and then rebounded with rounds of 72 and 73 to close out the event.

Freshman William Groom tied for 17th at 11-over, 227, and had rounds of 74, 77 and 76.
