Cougar Men's Golf Takes Third at Herb Wimberly Junior College Invitational

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team placed third at the Herb Wimberly Junior College Invitational on Oct. 17-18 at the University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. The Cougars finished at +27 (879), and freshman Ryan Blair led SMCC individually by tying for fifth at +4 (217) over the three rounds. 

SMCC finished six strokes behind the tournament's co-winners, Midland CC and Odessa College, who tied at +21 (873). The Cougars' best round of the competition came in the third and final round when they carded a 291. 

Blair scored identical 72s in the first and second rounds and carded a 73 in his final round. At +5 (217), he tied with Max Cavazos for fifth place at the event. 

Sophomore Zachary Erskine tied for 10th at +7 (220) with rounds of 73, 74 and 73. Freshman Bryan Beyer tied for 12th at +9 (222) with scores of 75, 75 and 72, while sophomore Ethan Klose tied for 16th at +10 (223) with scores of 77, 73 and 73. Sophomore Daniel Thompson tied for 24th at +15 (228) with rounds of 76, 73 and 79.
