SMCC Softball Hosts Intersquad Battle Series on Halloween

The South Mountain Community College softball team will host an inter-squad Battle Series for Halloween on Monday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. Inspired by the University of Oklahoma, who hosted a similar event earlier this fall, SMCC head coach Brittney Matta and the Cougars will square off in a point-based battle on the diamond. 

Position players and pitchers will earn points based on their performance.

Offensively, a single is worth 10 points, a double is worth 20 points, a triple is worth 30 points, a home run is worth 40 points, and a stolen base is worth 10 points. If a runner is caught stealing, the team loses 10 points. A walk or a hit-by-pitch is worth eight points, and a sacrifice bunt or a sacrifice fly is worth 10 points. 

A pitcher earns four points for every out and loses 10 points for each earned run allowed. 

The Cougars will divide into three teams, each of which has been named after a recent prominent SMCC alumnae: Alexa Key (who transferred to NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb University), Mia Stankiewicz (who transferred to NCAA Division I California State University, Northridge) and Kate Hogan (who transferred to NCAA Division I Idaho State University).
