Bio

Chelsea Gonzales enters her second season as an assistant coach for Brittney Matta and the South Mountain Community College softball team in the 2020-21 season. A former standout at Arizona State University, Gonzales works with Cougar infielders and hitters. She also serves as an academic advisor and career coach to all SMCC student-athletes.

With the Sun Devils, Gonzales enjoyed a stellar career. As a rookie, she earned Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honors and was a Top 25 Finalist for the NFCA Freshman of the Year. She would go on to earn Second Team All-Pac 12 honors as a sophomore and First Team All-Pac 12 honors as a senior.

Gonzales will represent Mexico in the 2021 Tokyo summer Olympics. She joined the Mexican National Team in 2017 and has competed in numerous international tournaments, including the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. In August 2019, she and Team Mexico went undefeated in Olympic qualifications to earn a berth in the games.

Gonzales also played professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league, suiting up for Cleveland Comets in 2019. She graduated in 2017 with a degree in Family and Human Development and is originally from La Habra, Calif.
