Chellis Receives NJCAA Division II Third-Team All-America Honors

South Mountain Community College sophomore Prima Chellis received NJCAA Division II Third Team All-America honors, the governing body announced Tuesday. A 5-10 forward, Chellis averaged a team-leading 20.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game during the regular season, topping the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference in scoring.

Earlier this year, Chellis received Second Team All-ACCAC and All-Region I Division II First Team honors after her outstanding season. She was a dominant offensive force all season for the Cougars, finishing with at least 30 points in six different games and posting 15 double-doubles.

Chellis poured in a season-best 37 points and finished 14 of 17 from the free-throw line in a game against Central Arizona. She added 16 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass, and three steals in the contest.

On the glass, Chellis had 14 games with double-digit rebounds and had a season-high 16 boards twice. She also recorded a season-high nine steals in a home win over Phoenix College and dished out a season-high five assists in a contest at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.

In the Cougars' first conference win of the season, she scored 17 points against Scottsdale Community College, and then followed that up with 32 points in a win over Eastern Arizona. She helped the Cougars stretch the winning streak to three with 21 points in a win at Glendale Community College.

Chellis posted 30 points, including 14 free throws, in a road win at Tohono O'odham Community College on Jan. 15. She poured in 31 points in a 78-74 home win over Phoenix College on Jan. 25.
