Four Cougars Finish in Double-Figures in Win over SAGU-AIC

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team defeated SAGU-American Indian College 67-39 in a non-conference contest at the SMCC Gym on Nov. 9. Freshman Nyese Jones led four Cougars in double-figures with a team-high 16 points, and freshman Genesis Adams added 14 off the bench. Sophomores Andrea Willeto and Star Anderson each finished with 10 points in the Cougars' first win of the season. 

SMCC jumped out to a 17-11 lead after 10 minutes and took a 29-19 advantage into halftime. In the second half, the Cougars outscored SAGU-AIC 38-20. SMCC shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field, 30 percent from 3-point range and 57.9 percent from the free-throw line. 

Jones was 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-6 from downtown. She added 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and had three assists and five steals. 

Adams went 6-of-8 from the field and knocked down two free throws. She added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Willeto finished 5-of-8 from the field and added nine defensive rebounds. Anderson was 4-of-10 from the field with two 3-pointers, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. 

Sophomore Myla Lee had seven points, three rebounds, five assists, and a steal; freshman Daziane Stevenson finished with four points, six rebounds, three assists, and a steal. 

Freshman Hailey Connor had four points and four rebounds off the bench for SMCC.
