Cougar Women's Basketball Defeats Park-Gilbert

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team defeated Park-Gilbert (JV) 57-45 in a non-conference game at SMCC Gym on Dec. 16. Sophomore guard Myla Lee led the Cougars with 19 points, sophomore forward Genesis Adams posted 18 points and 18 rebounds, and sophomore Andrea Willeto scored 15 points as SMCC downed the Buccaneers. 

Lee finished 7-of-16 from the field and knocked down all four free throws. She added two offensive rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win. Adams was a force inside all night and went 8-of-10 from the field with 15 defensive rebounds. She added an assist, a steal and a block in the win. 

Willeto made all seven free throws and had seven rebounds, two assists and four steals to go with her 15 points. Freshman Daziane Stevenson led SMCC with four assists and added four rebounds, two points and two steals.

SMCC shot 21-of-54 (38.9 percent) from the field and 14-of-18 (77.8 percent) from the free throw line. The Cougars grabbed 39 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive glass, and had 12 assists and 12 steals.
