The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (0-11, 0-6 ACCAC) lost 69-32 to Cochise College in an ACCAC contest on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Freshman forward Mimi Miller led SMCC with 10 points and sophomore Kayla Pettet added a career-high 11 rebounds for SMCC in defeat.
The Cougars trailed 42-20 at halftime and fell 27-12 in the second half. SMCC finished 11 of 52 (21.2 percent) from the field and posted 39 rebounds and 10 steals.
Miller was 3 of 7 from the field and made all four free throws. She added seven rebounds, five of which came on the offensive glass, in 27 minutes. She is averaging 10.0 points and 7.4 rebounds in 10 games this year.
Five of Pettet's 11 boards came on the offensive glass, and she added seven points, one steal, and one block in 28 minutes.
Freshman Janae Byrd totaled five points and a career-high seven steals in 33 minutes. Sophomore Hailey Connor had five points and two rebounds, and freshman Carissa Collier had seven rebounds and two points.
