Second-Round Improvement Highlights Cougars' Play at Coyote Lady Classic

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team posted a 46-shot improvement in its second round of the Coyote Lady Classic April 17-18 at Las Colinas Golf Course. Sophomore Miriam Verdugo finished a team-best 11th, and Emma Fisher (15 strokes) and Jenna Lee (five strokes) moved up the leaderboard after shaving multiple strokes off their first-round score. The Cougars posted a season-best 377 in the second round and finished third at 232-over, 800. 

Fisher recorded six pars in her second round, recording three on both the front and back nine, to finish the round at a team-best 88. She tied Lee for 13th at the event with a 49-over, 191. 

Lee had two pars in her second round and finished at 93, and Verdugo carded one par to finish her round at 89. She placed 11th with a final total of 35-over, 177 to pace the Cougars. 

Gracie Henderson finished 20th with a 129-over, 271. Victoria Negrete played the second round and recorded a 107 over the 18 holes. 

The Cougars close out their 2021 spring season at the Paradise Valley CC Women's Invitational at Wildfire Golf Club in Phoenix on April 26-27.
