Chelsea Carroll begins her third season as the South Mountain Community College women’s golf head coach in the 2021-22 academic year. A former assistant coach at Rogers State University and an assistant teaching professional at Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Carroll hopes to establish Cougar women’s golf as a destination for student-athletes looking to compete and aspire to NCAA Division I and II programs.

The Cougars had a strong season in 2021. The Cougars had two student-athletes qualify for the 2021 NJCAA Championships and displayed consistent improvement throughout the 2021 campaign, setting the stage for excellence in the upcoming years. Led by second-year head coach Chelsea Carroll, sophomore Miriam Verdugo and freshman Jenna Lee earned All-ACCAC honors and competed in the National Championships in Florida. SMCC produced its best performance at the Coyote Lady Classic on April 17-18 at Las Colinas Golf Course, posting a third-place finish after recording a 46-shot improvement in their second round.

In her first season at SMCC, Carroll restarted the program and the Cougars competed in three tournaments. The Cougars’ best performance came at the Scottsdale Women’s Invitational where they posted a 21-shot improvement to leap past three schools to place second.

A four-year member of the women’s golf team at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma and 2016 graduate in Sports and Business Management, Carroll placed in the top five twice in her final two seasons and in the top 10 five times, including in the final three tournaments of her career. As a senior, she finished in the top 10 at the Heartland Conference Championships, her final collegiate event.

For her RSU career, Carroll played in 33 events, totaling 66 rounds. She was a member of the Heartland Conference President's honor roll multiple times during her career. She spent the 2016-17 season at her alma mater as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs.

Prior to coaching at RSU, Carroll spent time on the fitness side of golf and also worked as a personal trainer for golfers. She worked at EXOS, a performance center in Phoenix, Ariz., for professional athletes, focusing on health and performance for elite athletes.

Carroll is working on her PGA Professional classification. Carroll, formerly Chelsea Burney, is married to Whellyn Carroll.
