SMCC Women's Volleyball Continues Preseason in Nevada, Downs Western Wyoming CC

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (2-5) continued its non-conference season with three matches at the College of Southern Nevada Sept. 9-10. At the tournament, the Cougars played Wallace State CC-Hanceville (AL), Western Wyoming CC, and College of Southern Nevada.

Wallace State CC (AL) Recap

The Cougars fell in straight sets to Wallace State CC, losing 25-19, 25-18 and 25-22.

Sophomore Maddy Davis and freshman Madison Cadden had a team-high seven kills for SMCC. Davis hit .375 in 16 swings, and Cadden hit .438 on 16 attacks.

Freshmen Maleah Reynolds and Leilani Clark each had four kills. Clark had four digs and a service ace, while Reynolds added five digs.

Freshman Maddie Marcotte led the Cougars with 16 assists, and sophomore Gracie Henderson added nine helpers. Sophomore Sienna Cumbie led SMCC with 11 digs, and freshman Imani Cannon finished second with seven digs.

The Cougars hit .204 (27 kills, eight errors, 93 attacks) as a team and had 40 digs. SMCC also had four service aces.

Western Wyoming CC Recap

The Cougars posted their second win, defeating Western Wyoming CC in four sets: 22-25, 28-26, 25-21, 25-21.

Reynolds posted a season-high 16 kills and hit .310 on 42 swings. She added eight digs and a service ace. Sophomore Mckenna Androsky finished second on the squad with nine kills and added two digs and a block assist.

Freshman Gabreya Garcia had eight kills and hit .438 on 16 swings and added a service ace, a dig and a block assist. Clark added seven kills, a service ace and two block assists.

Marcotte led SMCC with a season-high 35 assists, and added a season-high five service aces and eight digs. Henderson recorded five assists and four digs.

Sophomore Nikole Lunsford led the Cougars with a season-high 19 digs and added three assists and a service ace. Freshman Jalyssa Rogers had five kills on 15 swings and led the team with three block assists.

SMCC hit .192 as a team, recording a season-high 48 kills and 20 errors in 146 attacks. The Cougars' 40 digs were their second-most this season, and their 10 service aces set a new season-best.

College of Southern Nevada Recap

The Cougars fell to the tournament hosts in three sets, losing 26-24, 25-15 and 25-17.

Freshman Monet Whittier led the Cougars with seven kills and hit .312 with two errors in 16 attacks. She also had two block assists. 

Reynolds finished second on the squad with five kills and added a team-high 15 digs and a block assist. Cumbie finished with 10 digs, and Androsky finished with three kills and six digs.

SMCC hit. -.019 with 25 kills and 27 errors in 105 attacks as a team. The Cougars totaled eight block assists, and Cannon had the team's service ace.
