SMCC Women's Volleyball Powers Past Park U in 2021 Home Opener

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (3-5) defeated Park University 3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 12-25, 25-20) in its 2021 home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 14. Freshman Maleah Reynolds led SMCC with 12 kills, and Mckenna Androsky added 10 as the Cougars won on their home court in their first home match since Nov. 1, 2019.

The Cougars hit .271 as a team in the four sets, posting 45 kills and 13 errors in 118 attacks. SMCC added 49 digs, 11 block assists and 11 service aces in the victory. SMCC hit .184 in the first set and then improved to .333 in the second set, .320 in the third set and .290 in the fourth and decisive set. 

Reynolds hit .440 for the match, collecting 12 kills and one error on 25 swings. She added four digs and has a team-high 65 kills for the season. 

Androsky posted a double-double, collecting 11 digs to go with her 10 kills. She hit .143 on 35 swings and added two service aces and two block assists. 

Freshman Gabreya Garcia finished third on the team with seven kills, hitting .278 in 18 attacks. She had a team-high four block assists, a dig and a service ace.

Fellow rookies Jalyssa Rogers and Leilani Clark each had six kills in the win. Rogers hit .667 in nine swings with three service aces and a block assist, while Clark had three service aces, six digs and three block assists.

Freshman Maddie Marcotte had a team-high 39 assists and added six digs and a block assist. Freshman Imani Cannon led SMCC with 15 digs and added an assist and a kill.
