Balanced Attack Paces SMCC Volleyball Past Phoenix College

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (4-8, 1-3 ACCAC) defeated Phoenix College 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 29-27, 25-22) in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference road match on Sept. 22. Six Cougars posted at least five kills in the victory as SMCC stormed back to win three-straight sets after dropping the opener. 

SMCC finished with 45 kills, tying for its third-most this season, and had 25 errors in 152 swings. After hitting .057 in the first set, the Cougars hit .163, .103 and .200 in the next three sets, respectively, to seal the comeback.

The defense logged a season-high 62 digs, breaking their previous season benchmark by seven, and a season-best 16 block asststs.  The Cougars also posted a season-high four solo blocks in the win. 

Freshman Maleah Reynolds led the squad with 11 kills on 37 swings and tied a season high with 15 digs. Sophomore Mckenna Androsky had eight kills on 24 swings and added three digs. Freshmen Jalyssa Rogers and Gabreya Garcia each had seven kills, while fellow rookies Leilani Clark and Madison Cadden each had five kills in the win. 

Freshman Imani Cannon had a season-high 18 digs to go with an assist, while sophomore Gracie Henderson dished out a season-high 24 assists to go with six digs. Freshman Maddie Marcotte added 18 assists and eight digs, and Nikole Lunsford posted six digs.
