SMCC Volleyball Falls Three Times at Chandler-Gilbert CC Tournament

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (4-11) lost three times at the Chandler-Gilbert CC Tournament on Sept. 24-25 at Chandler-Gilbert CC. The Cougars fell 3-0 to Mesa CC and 3-1 to Pima CC and Chandler-Gilbert CC at the event. 

Mesa CC Recap

The Cougars fell 3-0 (25-9. 25-20, 25-21) to the Mesa CC Thunderbirds in SMCC's first match of the event. 

South Mountain CC hit -.047 for the match, totaling 20 kills and 25 errors in 106 attacks. The team had 57 digs, 17 assists and six service aces. 

Sophomore Mckenna Androsky led the squad with five kills and added three digs and a service ace. Freshman Leilani Clark had four kills on 14 attacks and added a dig. Three Cougars (Jalyssa Rogers, Gabreya Garcia, Madison Cadden) had three kills for the season. 

Sophomore Gracie Henderson had nine assists and freshman Maddie Marcotte had six helpers. Freshman Imani Cannon led the team with 14 digs, and sophomore Nikole Lunsford and Henderson each had 10. 

Pima CC Recap

The Cougars fell in four sets to the Aztecs on the second day of the event: 25-20, 26-24, 13-25, and 27-25. 

SMCC hit .038 in the contest, collecting 32 kills and 27 errors in 133 attacks. The team dished out 32 assists, posted a season-high 75 digs and had a season-high 13 service aces.

Freshman Maleah Reynolds led the team with 10 kills and a season-high 19 digs. Freshman Monet Whittier had six kills on 17 attacks, and Androsky recorded five kils and four digs. 

Henderson posted a double-double, collecting a team-high 17 assists to go with 11 digs. Marcotte had 15 assists and eight digs, and Cannon (13 digs) and Lunsford (11 digs) also finished in double-figures. 

Chandler-Gilbert CC Recap

The Cougars fell in four sets to the host Coyotes in their final match of the tournament: 25-16, 25-13, 22-25, and 25-18. 

SMCC hit .215 for the contest, finishing with 44 kills and 13 errors in 144 attacks. The team added 19 assists, 64 digs and five blocks.

Clark led the squad with 12 kills in 34 attacks, and added five digs and a block assist. Freshman Madison Cadden had a season-high nine kills and added six digs. Garcia had eight kills, three block assists and two digs. Androsky and Rogers each had five kills. 

Henderson finished with 19 assists and eight digs, while Lunsford led the team with a season-high 18 digs.
