SMCC Volleyball Clashes with Pima CC, Chandler-Gilbert CC

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (4-16, 1-8 ACCAC) faced Pima CC and Chandler-Gilbert CC in a pair of Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contests last week. In their third meeting with the Aztecs this fall, the Cougars fell 3-0 (25-12, 27-25, 27-25) on Oct. 6. Two days later, SMCC lost 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 26-24) in the team's second match of the season. 

Pima CC Recap

The Aztecs held off a pair of furious Cougar rallies to win the match in three sets. SMCC hit .089 for the contest, collecting 28 kills and 19 errors in 101 attacks. The second set saw SMCC hit a team-best 233 with 13 kills in the frame. 

Freshman Maleah Reynolds and sophomore Mckenna Androsky each had a team-high seven kills for SMCC. Androsky hit .235 on 17 attacks and added an assist and a dig. Reynolds added four digs and two service aces. 

Sophomore Gracie Henderson dished out a team-high 14 assists and had four digs while freshmean Maddie Marcotte had 12 assists, eight digs and a service ace. 

Sophomore Sienna Cumbie led the Cougars with 11 digs while Imani Cannon had five. 

Chandler-Gilbert CC Recap

The Cougars fell in three sets to the Coyotes, although they forced the third and decisive set into overtime. SMCC hit .137 with 27 kills and 14 errors on 95 swings, adding 51 digs and 21 assists. 

Reynolds posted a team-high eight kills on 28 swings and added 12 digs. Freshman Leilani Clark was second on the squad with seven kills, and she added three digs. Freshman Madison Cadden had four kills and hit .364 on 11 swings. 

Henderson led SMCC with 11 asissts and added two service aces and three digs. Marcotte finished with nine assiss, five digs and two service aces. Cumbie led the Cougars in digs with a season-best 14 for the match.
