Cougar Volleyball Continues ACCAC Season

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (4-22, 1-13 ACCAC) lost to Chandler-Gilbert CC, Eastern Arizona and Glendale CC in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference action last week. Freshman Maleah Reynolds had 49 kills over the three matches, sophomore Mckenna Androsky added 37 and freshman Maddie Marcotte recorded 124 assists over the three contests. 

Chandler-Gilbert CC Recap

The Cougars fell 21-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21 to the Coyotes on Oct. 19 in a home match. The Cougars hit .225 in the match and totaled 51 kills and 13 errors in 169 attacks. They also collected 45 assists, 76 digs, six service aces and six total blocks. 

Reynolds had a team-high 18 kills and hit .270 on 63 attacks. She also set a new season-high and team-best with 23 digs and added a service ace and a solo block. 

Androsky finished second on the squad with 14 kills, hitting .160 on 50 attacks. She added four digs, a service ace and two block assists.

Freshman Madison Cadden had 10 kills and hit .280 on 25 swings, and finished with two digs and a block assist. Fellow rookie Marcotte had a team-high 42 assists and added six digs. 

Sophomore Nikole Lunsford recorded 22 digs, an assist and a service ace, while sophomore Claire Burford had an assist, two service aces and a season-high seven digs.

Eastern Arizona Recap 

The Cougars won the first two sets against the Gila Monsters, but ultimately fell 17-25, 15-25, 25-19, 26-24 and 15-8 on Oct. 20. SMCC hit .197 and totaled 48 kills and 18 errors on 152 attacks. They added 45 digs, 10 service aces, 89 digs and nine total blocks in defeat. 

Reynolds led the team with 19 kills, hitting .286 on 56 attacks, to go with 21 digs, four block assists and two service aces. Androsky finished with 10 kills and .111 on 36 attacks. She added two service aces, six digs and two block assists.

Cadden finished with nine kills on 31 attacks, hitting .194 to go with four digs. Marcotte posted her third double-double of the season, recording 41 assists and 12 digs. Freshman Gabreya Garcia had a team-high four service aces to go with three kills, three digs, two solo blocks and two block assists. 

Lunsford tied for the team lead with 21 digs and added three assists and two service aces. Freshman Imani Cannon was the fourth Cougar with double-figure digs, producing 12 to go with an assist. Freshman Jalyssa Rogers had six kills, a dig and led SMCC with five block assists. 

Glendale CC Recap 

The Cougars won the third set against the Gauchos but lost 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, and 25-14 on Oct. 22. SMCC hit .215 in the match and finished with 47 kills and 16 errors in 144 attacks. The team added 44 assists, six service aces, 83 digs and six total blocks. 

Androsky led the team with 13 kills and hit .324 on 34 attacks. She also had three digs and a block assist. Reynolds had 12 kills, tied a season-high with 23 digs and had three block assists.  Cadden recorded 11 kills, seven digs and tied a season-high three service aces. 

Marcotte had a team-high 41 assists and added 11 digs, while Lunsford totaled 13 digs, three assists and a service ace. Garcia finished with five kills, a season-high six digs, a solo block and three block assists.
