Cougars Split with Pima CC, Williston State College

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (2-5) lost 3-2 to Pima CC before defeating Williston State College (ND) 3-1 in a pair of non-conference home matches on Aug. 26. Sophomore Madison Cadden had a team-high 22 kills against the Aztecs, but Pima CC rallied to win the final three sets and claim the match. Against the Tetons, sophomores Cadden (13 kills), Emily Wilson (11 kills) and Jalyssa Rogers (10 kills) paced the Cougar attack in the win.

The Cougars jumped to a 2-0 lead after hitting .324 on 55 attacks over the opening two frames. However, the Aztec defense stiffened and limited SMCC to 28 kills on 101 attacks and a .135 hitting percentage in the final three sets. 

Cadden led SMCC with 22 kills on 60 swings and posted a .317 hitting percentage. She added six digs and two service aces for the Cougars. 

Wilson was second on the team with eight kills, hitting .194 on 36 swings. She finished with a team-high 19 digs and one service ace. 

Rogers finished with seven kills and a .182 hitting percentage on 22 attacks. She added a solo block, a dig and a service ace. 

Freshman Delicea McAuley led SMCC with 39 assists and added three service aces and four digs. Sophomore Gracie Henderson added 10 assists and a service ace. 

Sophomore Imani Cannon posted 17 digs and a team-high four service aces. Freshman Shayna Simmers added eight digs and three assists, and Mariah Smith posted four kills, three solo blocks and a block assist. 

Williston State Recap

The Cougars rebounded from an opening-set loss to defeat the Tetons in four sets: 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21. 

SMCC hit .219 for the match, collecting 51 kills on 151 attacks. The Cougars added 49 assists, 13 service aces and 59 digs in the victory. 

Cadden led SMCC with 13 kills on 43 attacks to post a .256 hitting percentage. She added four digs and a block assist in four sets. 

Wilson finished with 11 kills on 37 swings and posted 14 digs to record her second double-double of the season. She also had three service aces and a block assist. 

Rogers posted a season-high 10 kills on 32 swings and added three digs, a solo block and two block assists. Smith posted eight kills on 14 attacks for a .357 hitting percentage and led SMCC with four solo blocks. 

McAuley led SMCC with 45 assists and added two kills and a service ace. Rylee Wengert added four assists, nine digs and a service ace. 

Cannon recorded a team-high 22 digs in the win and added three service aces, and Simmers added seven digs and two service aces.
