SMCC Women's Volleyball Sweeps Pima CC, Phoenix College

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (7-14, 4-6 ACCAC) defeated Pima CC and Phoenix College 3-0 in a pair of Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contests on Oct. 5 and 7, respectively. Against the Aztecs, sophomore Madison Cadden and freshman Rylee Pitts led the Cougars with 12 kills, and Jalyssa Rogers added eight with a .571 hitting percentage. Two days later, SMCC hit a season-high .385 as a team, Cadden led the squad with 15 kills, and Rogers added nine with a blistering .600 hitting percentage.  

Pima CC Recap

The Cougars posted a straight-set victory over the Aztecs: 30-28, 25-17 and 25-23. SMCC hit .349 with 17 kills in 43 attacks in the first set and then posted 13 kills in the third and final set to complete the sweep. 

Cadden hit .310 on 29 swings with a block assist to go with 12 kills. Pitts matched those 12 kills and also had a block assist. Rogers hit .571 on 14 attacks and added two digs and a solo block. 

Freshman Delicea McAuley led the Cougars with 36 assists and added nine digs, and sophomore Emily Wilson posted five kills, six digs and two aces.

Sophomore Imani Cannon recorded a team-high 13 digs and added an ace, and freshman Rylee Wengert had nine digs, three aces and two assists.  

Phoenix College Recap 

The Cougars rolled to a road sweep of the Bears: 25-13, 25-6 and 25-14. SMCC had five solo blocks and 12 block assists and limited Phoenix College to a -.102 hitting percentage for the match. 

Cadden led SMCC with 15 kills and hit .433 on 30 attacks, and added two aces, three block assists and a dig. Rogers had another strong hitting performance, totaling nine kills on 15 attacks for a .600 hitting percentage. She added three solo blocks and five block assists. 

Wilson posted six kills on 11 swings to hit .545 and added 10 digs, and Pitts posted four kills. Cannon led the Cougars with 11 digs, and freshman Shayna Simmers added 10 digs and an ace. 

McAuley posted a team-high 35 assists and recorded two aces, four digs and two block assists.
