SMCC Beach Volleyball Continues Spring 2021 Season

The South Mountain Community College beach volleyball team lost 3-2 to Mesa Community College in a duel at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, Ariz., on Friday, May 7. However, sophomore Marlayna Stapleton and freshman Mckenna Androsky improved to 4-0 on the season as a tandem, winning their second-court contest in straight sets.

Stapleton and Androsky won 21-19 and 21-14 to preserve their unblemished record. They are 3-0 on the second court and 1-0 in the No. 1 court.

In the top draw, Mikaila Williams and Alyssa McDowell fell 21-18 and 23-21 to even their season record at 2-2. They are now 2-1 playing as the No. 1 duo.

On the third court, Mackenzie Cumbie and Madison Davis teamed up for the first time this spring and lost 21-19 and 21-17.

Finally, Claire Burford and Sienna Cumbie lost 21-18 and 21-13 on the fourth court. The Thunderbirds had to forfeit the fifth court, and SMCC won on a walk-over.

The Cougars and Thunderbirds wrap up their inaugural season with a final dual on Friday, May 14, at noon.
