Cougar Men''s Hoops Falls at Pima CC

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team lost 79-72 at Pima CC on Jan. 4 in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest. Sophomore Steven Cervantes and freshman Jaylen Wesley led SMCC with 18 points, but the Aztecs closed the game on an 11-4 scoring run to win the contest. 

SMCC shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) from the field and made 75 percent (18-of-24) of its free throw attempts. The Cougars had 26 rebounds, 10 assists, seven steals and a block in the game. The Aztecs held a narrow 34-27 lead at halftime, and the two teams tied at 45-45 in the second half. 

Cervantes finished 7-of-12 from the field and knocked down three 3-pointers. He added a rebound and two assists in 34 minutes. Wesley was 4-of-12 from the floor but knocked down 10-of-12 attempts at the charity stripe. He added a team-best 13 rebounds, three assists and a steal in 36 minutes. 

Sophomore Darien Allen finished 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting and added four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 25 minutes before fouling out. Freshman Aaron Johnson came off the bench to score 11 points and grab five rebounds in 17 minutes.
