SMCC Golf, Softball team up to host 2022 Cougar Golf Classic

The South Mountain Community College men's golf, women's golf and softball programs have teamed up to host the 2022 Cougar Golf Classic Saturday, Aug. 13, at Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix. The four-person scramble will have a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start, and all proceeds will benefit the SMCC golf and softball programs.
Belisle Posts Big Improvement in Second Round of 2021 US Amateur Championship

South Mountain Community College freshman Cecil Belisle posted a 14-shot improvement in the second round of the 2021 US Amateur Championships at Oakmont Country Club and Longue Vue Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pa. After posting an 81 in the opening round at Oakmont CC, Belisle recorded five birdies in his second round to card a three-under, 67 at the Longue Vue Golf Club and finish the tournament at +8. He missed the cut to advance to the match play portion of the event.
Thirty-Seven Cougars Named to 2021 NJCAA All-Academic Teams

Thirty-seven South Mountain Community College student-athletes received 2021 NJCAA All-Academic Team honors for their performance in the classroom during the 2020-21 academic year. Additionally, four SMCC programs received 2021 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year awards for their team GPA and the four programs tied for the lead or outright led all schools in the NJCAA Region I.
SMCC's Cecil Belisle Qualifies for 2021 U.S. Amateur Championships

Cecil Belisle of the South Mountain Community College men's golf team has qualified for the 2021 U.S. Amateur Championships August 9-15 at Oakmont Country Club and Longue Vue Club in Pennsylvania. Belisle finished at eight-under, 136 at the Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora, Iowa, to place second at the qualifier event.
Cecil Belisle Named 2021 NJCAA Division II Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman

South Mountain Community College men's golf freshman Cecil Belisle received the 2021 NJCAA Division II Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award, presented by Strackaline. Belisle won three tournaments during the 2021 spring season, including the NJCAA Division II National Championships, and held a scoring average of 70.36 over 14 rounds of competition.
2021 Men's Golf Year-in-Review

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team had another stellar season in 2021, winning seven tournaments as a team and posting the individual medalist in every tournament the Cougars entered. SMCC finished as National Runners-Up at the 2021 NJCAA Division II National Championships and head coach Aaron Puetz and the Cougars fielded one of the top squads in the country.
Five Cougars Collect NJCAA Division II All-America Honors

Five members of the South Mountain Community College men's golf team earned 2021 NJCAA Division II All-America honors, led by a First Team award for freshman Cecile Belisle. Ryan Macpherson (Second Team), Nick Hedman (Second Team), Damon Vilkauskas (Honorable Mention) and Jando Hernandez (Honorable Mention) all received the honors after outstanding performances at the 2021 NJCAA Divison II National Championships.
Cecil Belisle Wins NJCAA Division II National Championship Individual Medalist Honors

Freshman Cecil Belisle finished at six-under, 282 to win Individual Medalist honors at the NJCAA Division II National Championships May 18-21 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth Indiana. A freshman from Red Wing, Minn., Belisle was nine-under-par after the first two rounds and finished at even-par 72 in the final round to win the tournament. As a team, SMCC finished at 18-over to place second in the tournament.
SMCC Men's Golf Set to Defend NJCAA Division II National Championship

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team will travel to the 2021 NJCAA Division II National Championships May 18-21 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind., set to defend its 2019 National Title after a stellar 2021 spring season. The Cougars won all seven of their 2021 spring tournaments and produced the individual medalist at all seven events to build momentum for these championships.
All-Conference and All-Region Honors Pour in for SMCC Men's Golf

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team collected multiple All-ACCAC and NJCAA All-Region I Division II honors as its heads to the NJCAA National Championships May 18-21 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind. Sophomores Nick Hedman and freshmen Cecil Belisle and Damon Vilkauskas earned NJCAA All-Region I Division II First Team honors, and Ryan Macpherson received an All-Region I Second Team award. Belisle, Valkauskas and Hedman also received First Team All-ACCAC awards and Macpherson earned a spot on the Second Team All-ACCAC.
Cougars Capture Regional Championship; Belisle Claims Individual Medalist Honors

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the NJCAA Region I Division II Championship at Gold Canyon Golf Course in Gold Canyon, Ariz., from April 29-May 2. Freshman Cecil Belisle claimed individual medalist honors with a four-under, 276 over four rounds of competition, including a five-under performance over rounds two and three, and the Cougars will get a chance to defend their 2019 National Championship at the 2021 NJCAA Division II National Championships on May 18-21 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.
Hedman, SMCC Men's Golf Win Paradise Valley Invitational

Sophomore Nick Hedman captured individual medalist honors with a three-under, 141 and the South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the team title by six strokes at the Paradise Valley Invitational April 19-20 at Gainey Ranch Golf Course in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Cougars head to the NJCAA Region I Tournament on May 1-2 having won all six of their spring 2021 tournaments with an SMCC student-athlete claiming individual medalist honors at each event.
MacPherson Claims Individual Medalist as SMCC Wins South Mountain Classic

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the South Mountain Classic April 12-13 at The Legacy Golf Resort with a 10-under 558, and sophomore Ryan Macpherson captured his second individual medalist honor of the 2021 spring with an 11-under, 131 over the two rounds. The Cougars and Macpherson both won by eight strokes, respectively, as SMCC performed outstandingly at its home tournament.
Hedman Wins Individual Medalist as SMCC Men's Golf Wins Pima CC Invitational

Sophomore Nick Hedman fired a four-under, 140 over the two rounds of the Pima CC Invitational Mar. 29-30 at Randolph Golf Course in Tucson to claim individual medalist honors and helped lead the South Mountain Community College men's golf team to the team title. Damon Vilkauskas (2nd), Ryan Macpherson (4th) and Jake Carlson (5th) all finished in the top five, and Leon Acikalin and Jando Hernandez placed in the top 10 for the event.
SMCC Men's Golf Claims Gaucho AZ Showdown; Acikalin Wins Playoff to Earn Individual Medalist

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team fired a two-under 574 over the two rounds to win the Gaucho AZ Showdown hosted by Glendale Community College at Corte Bella Golf Course in Sun City West, Ariz., on Mar. 16-17. Sophomore Leon Acikalin took home individual medalist honors by winning a scorecard playoff based on his score on the back nine of Wednesday's round to edge Paradise Valley CC's Justin Terry.

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team fired a -12 (564) to win the Scottsdale CC Invitational Mar. 1-2 at Hillcrest Golf Club. Individually, freshman Cecil Belisle won the tournament by firing a -4 (140) over the two days while Ryan Macpherson, Nick Hedman and Damon Vilkauskas all recorded top-five finishes.
