SMCC Golf, Softball team up to host 2022 Cougar Golf Classic

The South Mountain Community College men's golf, women's golf and softball programs have teamed up to host the 2022 Cougar Golf Classic Saturday, Aug. 13, at Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix. The four-person scramble will have a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start, and all proceeds will benefit the SMCC golf and softball programs. 

The cost per individual is $125, or a team sponsorship of four participants is $500. 

The cost includes prizes and lunch at Legacy Golf Resort, located at 6808 S. 32nd St., Phoenix, AZ 85042. 

For those unable to play or attend, there are sponsorship opportunities available. The cost to sponsor a hole is $100, to sponsor a player is $125, to sponsor the tournament par-three holes is $350, to sponsor a team is $500, to sponsor the beverages is $500 and to sponsor the lunch is $750.

The SMCC Men's golf team won the 2022 NJCAA Division II National Championship, sophomore Cecil Belisle won the individual National Championship for the second-straight year, and Carroll became the first woman in NJCAA history to lead a men's program to a National Championship.  

The SMCC women's golf team finished eighth at the 2022 NJCAA Southwest District Championships. Freshman Kylie Rehberger earned All-District, All-Region and All-ACCAC honors and tied for 52nd at the 2022 NJCAA National Championships. 

The SMCC softball team finished 34-24 overall, and 25-19 in ACCAC play to qualify for its second straight Region I Division II tournament. Freshman second baseman Kate Hogan earned NFCA First Team All-American honors after a stellar debut season.
