Chellis Receives Second Team All-ACCAC and First Team All-Region I Division II Awards

South Mountain Community College women's basketball sophomore Prima Chellis received Second Team All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and First Team All-Region I Division II honors, the league office announced on Feb. 26. A 6-0 forward, Chellis led the Cougars in scoring and rebounding, averaging 20.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game for the season.

Chellis was a dominant offensive force all season for the Cougars. She finished with at least 30 points in six different games and posted 15 double-doubles.  She produced a season-high 37 points in a game against Central Arizona on Feb. 8, finishing 11 of 22 from the field and 14 of 17 from the free-throw line.

Down the stretch, she saved some of her best performances for the biggest games. She posted 31 points and season-high 16 rebounds in an overtime win against Arizona Western. In a comeback victory over Tohono O'odham Community College on Feb. 22, Chellis produced a 28-point, 15-rebound performance.

In a 78-74 victory against Phoenix College on Jan. 25, Chellis registered a season-high nine steals. She recorded a season-high five assists in a contest against Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Jan. 22.

She and the Cougars will travel to Pima Community College for an NJCAA Region I Division II Tournament game on Wednesday March 4. The game will start at 7 p.m.
