SMCC Women's Basketball Falls at Mesa CC

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team lost 82-56 to Mesa CC on Nov. 22 in both teams' Arizona Community College Athletic Conference opener. Sophomore Andrea Willeto led the Cougars with 17 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore Genesis Adams added 15 points and three boards, but the Thunderbirds won all four quarters to post the victory. 

Mesa CC led 18-11 after 10 minutes and held a 40-22 advantage at halftime. The Thunderbirds won the third quarter 20-17 and had a five-point advantage (22-17) in the fourth. SMCC shot 40 percent (20-of-50) from the field and finished with 24 rebounds, 10 assists and 11 steals. 

Willeto went 6-of-11 from the field and knocked down three 3-pointers. Two rebounds came on the offensive glass, and she added an assist and a steal. Adams made six of her nine shots, connected on three free throws and had a block and an assist.

Sophomore Myla Lee recorded eight points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal, and freshman Nyese Jones had seven points, two rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Sophomore Star Anderson led SMCC with four steals and added four points and two boards, and freshman Jolie King had three points, two assists and a steal off the bench.
