Cougar Women's Basketball Falls to Pima CC, Eastern Arizona

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team lost 63-45 at Pima CC on Jan. 4 and 68-44 to Eastern Arizona on Jan. 7 in a pair of Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contests. Sophomore Andrea Willeto led SMCC with 16 points in the game against the Aztecs, while sophomore Myla Lee paced the Cougars with 10 points against the Gila Monsters. 

Pima CC Recap

The Cougars fell 63-45 on the road at Pima CC on Jan. 4. SMCC shot 23.4 percent (15-of-64) from the field and 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the free throw line and added 29 rebounds, seven assists, 10 steals and five blocks. 

Willeto was 5-of-15 from the field and 6-of-9 from the free throw line. She added six rebounds, an assist, two steals and a block in the contest. 

Sophomore Star Anderson was second on the squad with nine points, and she added three rebounds and a steal. Sophomore Genesis Adams led SMCC with 11 rebounds and added eight points, three assists, three blocks and a steal. 

Lee finished with seven points, two assists and two steals, and freshman Kayla Pettet came off the bench to grab five rebounds. 

Eastern Arizona Recap 

The Cougars fell 68-44 in a home contest to the Gila Monsters on Jan. 7. SMCC shot 28.6 percent (12-of-42) from the field, and 60 percent (18-of-30) from the free throw line, and the Cougars finished with 30 rebounds, four assists and nine steals.

Lee was 3-of-9 from the field and knocked down four of her six free throw attempts. She added three rebounds, two assists and two steals. 

Anderson, Adams and Willeto all totaled six points in defeat. Anderson had three steals, Adams had five rebounds, and Willeto had a team-high eight rebounds and two steals. 

Freshman Jolie King came off the bench to score seven points and grab two rebounds, while freshman Hailey Connor added six points and four rebounds.
