The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team lost 88-52 to Cochise College in an ACCAC home game on Jan. 21 at the SMCC Gym. Sophomores Genesis Adams and Myla Lee led SMCC with 11 points, but the Apaches used a significant scoring run in the first quarter to take the lead they would not relinquish.
SMCC trailed 49-22 at halftime and 71-34 after 30 minutes. However, the Cougars won the fourth quarter 18-17.
Lee was 4-of-11 from the field with a team-high five assists. She added six rebounds, three free throws and two steals. Adams was 4-of-9 from the field with six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Sophomore Andrea Willeto added six points off a pair of 3-pointers and led SMCC with eight rebounds. She also had three assists and a block. Freshmen Kayla Pettet and Hailey Connor each had five points. Pettet had six rebounds, while Connor had two rebounds, an assist and two steals.
