Cougars Finish Third at Pima CC Women's Invitational

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team finished third at the Pima CC Women's Invitational at Randolph North Golf Course in Tucson on Mar. 29-30. Sophomore Miriam Verdugo led the Cougars at the event, placing 12th with a 52-over, 198, and freshman Emma Fisher and Jenna Lee posted significant improvements in the second round of the event. 

As a team, SMCC posted a 25-stroke improvement on the second day of the event and finished at 401 for the round. They wound up at 243-over, 827 over the two days to take third at the tournament.

Verdugo opened the event with a team-low 97 and finished with a 101 on the second take to take 12th. Fisher started with a 107 and then carded a 97 on the second day to move into 13th, while Lee improved from 113 to a team-best 96 on the second day to finish 15th. 

Sophomore Victoria Negrete also improved in her second round, going from 109 to 107 to place 18th. Finally, Gracie Henderson was 21st with rounds of 131 and 162. 

The Cougars return to action with the Estrella Mountain CC Women's Invitational at Coldwater Golf Course in Avondale, Ariz., on April 2-3.
