SMCC Golf Congratulates Four-Year Transfers for 2022-23

The South Mountain Community College men's and women's golf programs and head coach Chelsea Carroll would like to congratulate Sean Markham (Sonoma State University), Cecil Belisle (University of Kansas) and Emma Fisher (William Woods University) as they continue their intercollegiate golf careers at four-year institutions for the upcoming 2022-23 academic year. Belisle and Markham earned All-American honors and helped lead the Cougars to the 2022 NJCAA Division II National Championship, while Fisher helped re-launch the SMCC women's program as the squad participated at the 2022 NJCAA Southwest District Championships.

A total of 43 South Mountain Community College student-athletes earned 2021-22 NJCAA All-Academic honors for their work in the classroom. The SMCC women's golf team received NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors after posting a cumulative 3.65 team GPA, and the Cougars had 10 student-athletes earn First Team awards after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Sophomore Emma Fisher and freshman Kylie Rehberger earned All-American Scholar honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association for their work in the classroom, the WGCA announced. Fisher, who is transferring to William Woods University to continue her intercollegiate golf career, and Rehberger, who earned All-District honors for her play on the course, posted a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and were among a total of 1,485 women's collegiate golfers to receive the award.

The South Mountain Community College men's golf, women's golf and softball programs have teamed up to host the 2022 Cougar Golf Classic Saturday, Aug. 13, at Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix. The four-person scramble will have a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start, and all proceeds will benefit the SMCC golf and softball programs.

South Mountain Community College men's golf head coach Chelsea Carroll made history in 2022 when she became the first woman to lead a men's team to an NJCAA National Championship as the Cougars captured the 2022 NJCAA DII Title. For her efforts, she received the 2022 Dave Williams NJCAA National Coach of the Year honors.

South Mountain Community College freshman Kylie Rehberger tied for 52nd at +57 (345) at the NJCAA Division I Women's Championships May 9-12 in Sanford, Fla., at Mayfair Country Club. Rehberger posted rounds of 88, 84, 86 and 87 at the event to cap off a stellar 2022 debut season.

South Mountain Community College women's golf freshman Kylie Rehberger qualified for the NJCAA National Championships on May 9-12 in Sanford, Fla., at Mayfair Country Club. Originally from Chandler, Ariz., Rehberger earned All-District, All-Region and All-Conference honors for her play during the season and will compete in Florida as an individual.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed eighth at the 2022 NJCAA Southwest District Championships April 18-19 at Hawks Creek Golf Club in Westworth Village, Texas. The Cougars finished the three rounds at 223-over, 1087. Individually, freshman Kylie Rehberger led SMCC and earned All-District honors with an eighth-place finish at nine-over, 239.

SMCC women's golf freshman Kylie Rehberger earned First Team All-ACCAC and First Team All-Region honors for her work on the course during the 2021 spring season. Originally from Chandler, Ariz., Rehberger posted three second-place finishes and averaged a two-round score of 154.5 in six events.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed second at the Paradise Valley Invitational on April 11-12 at Wildfire Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The Cougars opened with a 354 and then posted a 362 in the second round to finish at 106-over, 716. Individually, Kylie Rehberger finished second overall with a 12-over, 156 after an opening round of two-over, 74.

Freshman Kylie Rehberger placed fifth to lead the SMCC women's golf team at the Chandler-Gilbert Invite April 2-3 at Las Colinas Golf Course in Queen Creek, Ariz. Rehberger finished at seven-over, 151 for the two rounds, and the Cougars took fourth as a team at the event.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team took third place at the Estrella Mountain Women's Invitational Mar. 13-14 at Sundance Golf Course in Avondale, Ariz. SMCC posted a 23-shot improvement in its second round, leapfrogging Estrella Mountain for third place at the event. Freshman Kylie Rehberger led the Cougars individually, recording a 19-over, 163 to take fifth place.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed third at the Pima Women's Invite at Randolph North Golf Course Feb. 28 and Mar. 1 in Tucson, Ariz. The Cougars finished at +144 as a team, and held off Estrella Mountain CC by 10 strokes for third place. Individually, Kylie Rehberger led SMCC with a sixth-place finish, carding a 16-over, 162 over the 36 holes.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed third at the South Mountain Invitational on Feb. 19-20 at Apache Creek Golf Course in Apache Junction, AZ. Freshman Kylie Rehberger tied for the second at the event at 11-over, 153, and Trixie Sabulao tied for 13th at the Cougars' home tournament.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed second at the season-opening Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Dobson Ranch Golf Course on Feb. 2-3. Freshman Kylie Rehberger led the Cougars with a second-place finish at +8 (152) whle the Cougars finished at +127 (703).

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team defeated Pima CC in the Pima CC Fall Duel Nov. 8-9 at El Conquistador Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz. The Cougars carded rounds of 367 and 374 to defeat the host Aztecs by 85 strokes, and freshman Kylie Rehberger led SMCC and all individuals with rounds of 81 and 83.
