SMCC Plays to 3-3 Draw with Gateway CC on Sophomore Day

The South Mountain Community College women's soccer team played to a 3-3 draw with Gateway CC in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference on Oct. 18. Trailing 2-0 after eight minutes, the Cougars fought back to tie the match at halftime and rally to tie the game again in the 79th minute to defend home field on Sophomore Day. 

Valeria Rodriguez was the first Cougar to strike back against the Geckos. She scored in the 15th minute off an assist from Alicia Nicholson to record her second goal of the season. 

Lucy Millan then tied the match in the 25th minute with her second goal of the year. Kayla Garcia recorded an assist on the play. 

Trailing 3-2 in the 79th minute, Nicholson scored her second goal of the year to tie the match. Garcia recorded her second assist of the day and fourth of the season on the play. 

In net, sophomore Jordan Whitaker made four saves in 100 minutes of action. Gateway CC finished with 14 shots in the match compared to nine for the Cougars. Each team had a player see the yellow card.
