Cougar Women's Volleyball Hangs On to Defeat Park-Gilbert

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (5-13) defeated Park-Gilbert 3-2 in a non-conference match at the SMCC Gym on Monday, Sept. 26. SMCC won the first two sets before the Buccaneers rallied to win the third and fourth. Still, the Cougars rallied in the fifth set to post their second win in their last three contests. 

SMCC hit .241 with 58 kills on 174 attacks over the five sets. The Cougars added 59 assists, a season-high 106 digs, 14 aces and a season-high 25 digs in the victory. The final scores were 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 23-25 and 15-9. 

Sophomore Madison Cadden led the Cougars with a season-high 23 kills on 60 swings to finish with a .333 hitting percentage. She added seven digs, a solo block and three block assists in the win. 

Freshman Rylee Pitts was second on the squad with a season-high 12 kills. She hit .370 in 27 swings and recorded three digs, four aces, four solo blocks and three block assists. 

Sophomore Emily Wilson recorded 11 kills and 25 digs for her third double-double. She also had an ace and a solo block. Freshman Rylee Russell added a season-high seven kills to go with 12 digs and a service ace. 

Freshman Rylee Wengert led the Cougars with a season-high 34 digs and added an assist, while freshman Delicea McAuley posted 58 assists, two kills, 12 digs, a solo block and an ace for her third-straight double-double. 

Freshman Shayna Simmers added four aces and eight digs, while freshman Brynley Lynch posted three kills, two solo blocks and six block assists.
