Mesa CC Edges SMCC Beach Volleyball

The South Mountain Community College beach volleyball team lost 3-2 to Mesa CC on Feb. 16 at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, Ariz. The Cougars' No. 2 and No. 3 pairs were victorious against the Thunderbirds, but Mesa CC claimed the victory by winning a third set in the No. 4 pairs.
SMCC's No. 2 pairs of freshman Daisy Motes and sophomore Emily Wilson recorded their second win of the week with a 15-21, 21-19, 18-16 victory.
The Cougars' No. 3 pairs of freshmen Nichole Gary and Rylee Pitts also won in three sets, claiming their match 18-21, 23-21, 16-14.
In the No.1 pairs, freshman Amaya Evans and sophomore Kristine Garcia fell in three sets (21-16, 19-21, 15-10), as did the No. 4 pairs team of freshmen Alexa Wasil and Emee Fellens (21-18, 14-21, 16-14).
The No. 5 pairs tandem of freshmen Hannah Van Winkle and Shandi Allison fell 21-16 and 21-9. In an exhibition contest, Garcia and Pitts won in three sets: 19-21, 21-14, 15-10.
