SMCC Baseball Rebounds with 15-9 Victory at PVCC

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (13-15, 6-10 ACCAC) defeated Paradise Valley CC 15-9 on Mar. 12 after falling 6-3 on Mar. 11 in a pair of Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contests. In the road win against the Pumas, Taylor Tractenberg and Kyle Alexander had three hits apiece as the Cougars snapped a six-game losing streak. On Mar. 11, PVCC jumped out to a 3-1 lead and scored three runs in the ninth to secure the win.

Mar. 11 Recap

The Pumas scored three runs in the fourth and added three insurance runs in the ninth to post a 6-3 win. Gustavo Sosa had a team-high three hits, finishing 3-for-4 with his second home run of the season, two RBIs, and a run scored.

Connor Schneider set a new season-high with three stolen bases and added a hit and a run scored. Kyle Alexander had an RBI and a double, Jacob Alexander had a triple and scored a run, and Jayden Smith had a hit and a stolen base.

Ryan Figueroa (3-1) took the loss for SMCC on the mound. He tossed 7.0 innings with six strikeouts, one walk and three earned runs. Steven VasquezRobert Schardt, and Josaiah Estrella saw time in relief.

Mar. 12 Recap

The Cougars erupted for 11 runs over the first four innings and posted a 15-9 win to snap their losing streak. Five SMCC student-athletes had multiple hits, and three finished with multiple RBIs.

Tractenberg finished 3-for-6 with three runs, two RBIs and a double, while K. Alexander was 3-for-6 with a run scored, three RBIs and a double. Drew Bond was the third Cougar to hit a double, and he added two runs and three RBIs.

Esteban Hernandez scored a pair of runs, walked three times and stole a base, and Smith and Schneider scored a pair of runs.

Carter Krosky (2-2) earned the win with 5.1 innings of work. He struck out six, walked two and allowed five earned runs. Eric PerezCarson HamroCharlie DeedsMatthew Martinez and Raul Garayzar saw time in relief.
