Cougar Baseball Takes Pair from Western Nebraska CC

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (15-15) defeated Western Nebraska CC 10-3 on Mar. 15 and 6-2 on Mar. 16 in a pair of non-conference home games. In the first victory, Esteban Hernandez had a season-high four hits, and six other Cougars finished with multiple hits as SMCC led 8-0 through five innings en route to the 10-3 victory. In the second win, Taylor Tractenberg had three hits, Jacob Alexander hit his first home run of the season, and SMCC pitching allowed two unearned runs over nine innings.

Mar. 14 Recap

SMCC posted 18 hits and scored multiple runs in three of the first five innings as it won 10-3 against the WNCC Cougars.

Hernandez finished 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs, a double and two stolen bases, and Jayden Smith added three hits, two RBIs, a double, two stolen bases and a run.

Connor SchneiderCarter RicheyKyle AlexanderGustavo Sosa and Tractenberg had two hits in the win. Schneider scored a run and stole a base, Richey had three RBIs and a double, and K. Alexander scored three runs and hit his first triple.

Sosa finished 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and two walks, while Tractenberg hit his third home run, a solo blast in the seventh.

Raul Garayzar (2-3) earned the win with 5.0 innings of work on the mound. He fanned seven, walked one and did not allow a run. Max MahollandRobert SchardtCharlie Deeds and Nick Wallerstedt threw an inning of relief.

Mar. 15 Recap

After WNCC scored a run in the first, SMCC responded behind J. Alexander's two-out, two-run blast. The Cougars added a run in the second, two in the third and one in the fifth to post the 6-2 victory.

Tractenberg was a perfect 3-for-3 with a run and a double, and Smith added two hits, an RBI and a stolen base. Richey scored three times and added a hit, and K. Alexander produced a pair of RBIs.

Drew Bond (1-2) earned his first win of the season with four innings of relief. He allowed three hits and one unearned run to go with four strikeouts. Josaiah Estrella started the game for SMCC and allowed two hits and an unearned run in two innings.

Steven Vasquez tossed two innings of hitless relief, and Alec Stanfield had a pair of strikeouts in the ninth.
