Balanced Attack Powers SMCC Past Taylor Made Prep

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team (3-3) defeated Taylor Made Prep 93-67 in a non-conference game at Cougar Gym on Wednesday, Nov. 10. Sophomore Elijah Melendez led five Cougars in double-figures with a season-high 21 points and SMCC dished out 30 assists on 34 made field goals in the victory. 

As a team, SMCC shot a prolific 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the field and 79.2 percent (19-of-24) from the free-throw line. Six different Cougars knocked down a 3-pointer in the victory and the team amassed 44 rebounds, nine steals and eight blocks in the win.

Melendez was 8-of-16 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. He added six assists and a steal in 25 minutes of work. 

Sophomores Demonte Demore and Jalen Gant each finished with 14 points. Demore had six rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks in 16 minutes, while Gant had a team-high eight rebounds in 23 minutes. 

Freshman Darien Allen had 11 points, a team-high eight assists and seven rebounds in 30 minutes of work, and sophomore Shawn Black came off the bench to finish with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and a team-high four blocked shots.
