SMCC Men's Hoops Overcomes Halftime Deficit to Down Eastern Arizona 67-66

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team (6-6, 2-3 ACCAC) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Eastern Arizona 67-66 in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest in Thatcher, Ariz., on Dec. 4. Four Cougar starters finished in double-figures in the victory, led by sophomore Demonte Demore's 16 points. 

SMCC trailed 32-22 after 20 minutes of play, but exploded for 45 points in the second half to post the victory. The Cougars shot 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the field and knocked down six 3-pointers in the win. 

Demore finished 5-of-15 from the field and knocked down 5-of-8 free throws in 31 minutes of work, adding six rebounds and a steal. Sophomore Elijah Melendez scored 15 points and knocked down a team-high three 3-pointers. He added two rebounds and a block in 27 minutes of work. 

Freshman Darien Allen posted 14 points and matched a season high with nine rebounds 25 minutes. He was 6-of-11 from the field and recorded a season-high three blocked shots. Sophomre Jalen Gant had 10 points and fourn rebounds in 22 minutes, finishing 5-of-8 from the field.  

Sophomore Cam Gwyn came off the bench to knock down a pair of 3-pointers and sophomore Jalen Smith grabbed five rebounds in seven minutes.
