Bio

Harry Cannon joined the SMCC Men's Basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach before the 2021-22 season. 

Cannon started his coaching career as a Assistant coach for the legendary Norm Patton at Pima Community College while he was completing his Master's degree at the University of Arizona in 1974-75.  From 1976 to 1981, Cannon worked as an assistant coach at Phoenix Union high school with Argie Rhymes record was 100-20 for those years with five-straight state tournament appearances and a state championship finalist in 1982 when the school was closed.  

From 1981 to 1983, Cannon was an assistant for Scottsdale CC. The team posted an overall record of 47-14 during those two seasons. SCC posted a 2nd place in conference first year, and were 28-4 in the second season with a 21-game winning streak. They finished as ACCAC conference champs and were ranked second in final national poll.

From 1983-1986, Cannon assumed the head coaching duties at SCC. They finished in sixth place in 1984, fifth place in 1985, in which SCC qualified for the region I tournament, and sevneth place in the conference in 1986.

Cannon was a assistant coach at powerhouse Carl Hayden High School from 1997 to 2004. 

Cannon was an assistant coach for Dan Nichols at SMCC, left in 2008 to coach at GCU with Nichols, and left SMCC to coach at GCC in 2015-2016.

In 1968, Cannon played at Clarendon J.C in Texas for two years  and earned all-conference and all-region honors both seasons. He played one year Abilene Christian University and transferred to Oregon State for his final year. Cannon completed his B.S at Oregon State University in 1971 and received his Master's degree at the University of Arizona in 1975.

Cannon retired from the Phoenix Union High School Disrict, and is now a part time teacher at South Mountain High School.
