SMCC Men's Golf Wins Pima CC Fall Duel

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team defeated Pima CC by 31 strokes in the Pima CC Fall Duel at El Conquistadors Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz., on Nov. 8-9. Freshman Anthony Carr took home individual medalist honors at the event, finishing at four-over, 146 to edge teammate Damon Vilkauskas by one stroke.
Carr put together rounds of 75 and 71, improving by four strokes over his final 18 holes. Vilkauskas posted rounds of 73 and 74 to finish second at five-over, 147.
Sophomores Cecil Belisle and Carter Rowe tied for third at eight-over, 150. Belisle rebounded from an opening-round 78 with a one-over 72 in the second, while Rowe posted a two-shot improvement in his second 18 (76 and 74).
Freshman Daniel Thompson took sixth place by one stroke, finishing at 13-over, 155 due to a five-stroke improvement in his second round. Freshman Zachary Erskine took eighth at 16-over, 158 and posted a six-stroke improvement (82 and 76) in his second round.
SMCC opened with a 302 and held a five-stroke lead on the host Aztecs. In the second round, the Cougars posted an 11-stroke improvement and finished at 291 to claim the event.
