Marcus Smith Named SMCC Men's Golf Head Coach

PHOENIX ---

Marcus Smith has been named South Mountain Community College men's golf head coach, SMCC Director of Athletics Todd Eastin announced. Smith brings extensive experience to the Cougars after spending three years as the men's and women's golf head coach at ACCAC rival Pima CC.

"I am extremely grateful to Todd Eastin for giving me the opportunity to join this highly decorated program," said Smith. "It's an honor to have the opportunity to coach a program that has produced so much success. We have a great group of guys ready to create their legacy within the program."

Smith arrives at SMCC after spending three seasons as the men's and women's golf head coach at Pima CC in Tucson. Smith helped lead the Aztec men to the 2022 and 2023 NCAA Region I Division I Championships, and the team advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Championships in all three seasons.

On the women's side, his 2022 team finished as Region I Division I runners-up and competed at the NJCAA Division I National Championships in all three seasons.

Smith also served on the Pima CC Administrative Leadership Team and provided game management, educational support and other administrative duties for the Pima CC athletic department.

Off the course, Smith is an English instructor at Gateway CC. He is also the author of "Dream Big, Live Larger."

Smith received his Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Arizona in 2022. He is pursuing a Master's Degree in English with an emphasis in Education at Grand Canyon University.

"It's a huge responsibility taking over a program that has produced many great players and coaches, many of whom I have competed against over the last couple of years," Smith added. "I intend to continue these great traditions while staying true to myself as a coach and allowing our players to chase their dreams and get a great education."
