Marco Amador Earns All-ACCAC and All-Region I Honors

Freshman midfielder Marco Amador earned Second Team All-ACCAC and Second Team All-Region I Division II honors for his work on the pitch for the South Mountain Community College in the recently completed 2022 season. Originally from Nogales, Ariz., Amador totaled a team-high five goals and 10 points during the campaign, including the game-winning goal in double overtime against Gateway CC.
Cougars Post Double Overtime Victory Over Gateway CC

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team defeated Gateway Community College 2-1 in double overtime in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest on Oct. 18. Freshman Marco Amador broke the deadlock with a golden goal in the 109th minute to lift the Cougars to their first victory of the 2022 campaign.

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team lost 1-0 to nationally ranked Mesa CC in an ACCAC home game on Oct. 11. The teams went into halftime scoreless and remained that way until the 54th minute, when Mark Gomez scored an unassisted goal to give the Thunderbirds the advantage. In goal, freshman Max Melendez made a season-high seven saves and freshman Jason Diaz Mara had the Cougars' lone shot on goal. There were eight yellow cards in the match with both teams receiving four cautions.
SMCC Men's Soccer Battles with Glendale CC, Phoenix College

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team lost 3-0 at Glendale CC on Oct. 4 and 14-0 at home against Phoenix College on Oct. 8 in a pair of ACCAC matches on Oct. 4 and Oct. 8, respectively. Against the Bears, freshman Max Melendez made six saves in goal for the Cougars.
SMCC Men's Soccer Falls to Yavapai College, Scottsdale CC

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team lost 9-0 to Yavapai College and 4-2 to Scottsdale CC in a pair of ACCAC road matches on Sept. 24 and Oct. 1, respectively. Against the Roughriders, two Cougars saw yellow cards (Kevin Tejada and Miguel Moreno Macedo) while Yavapai scored four goals in the first half and five in the second. Against the Artichokes, Dylan Lopez scored in the 22nd minute and Jason Diaz Mara scored in the 39th for the Cougars, but SCC fout back with three second-half goals to secure the win. Conlan McCoy recorded an assist on Diaz Mara's goal, and Jason Martinez made six saves in net for SMCC.

Freshmen jason Diaz Mara and Marco Amador scored goals, but the South Mountain Community College men's soccer team fell 4-2 at Paradise Valley CC in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest on Sept. 20.

Amador, Valenzuela Score for SMCC Men's Soccer at Arizona Western

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (0-4, 0-1 ACCAC) lost 12-2 at Arizona Western in its 2022 ACCAC opener on Saturday, Sept. 10. Freshmen Marco Amador and Angel Valenzuela scored goals for the Cougars and Kevin Tejada recorded an assist. In net, Jason Martinez made eight saves in 45 minutes and Max Melendez had two saves in for 45 minutes for the Cougars. Amador leads SMCC with three goals and eight shots on the season and Tejada is the second SMCC player to record an assist this season.

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (0-3) lost 6-0 to Glendale Community College in a non-conference match on Saturday, Sept. 3 at the SMCC Soccer Field. Freshmen Marco Amador and Kevin Tejada each had a shot on goal in the loss. In goal, freshman Jason Martinez played the first half and made five saves, and freshman Max Melendez played the second half and made two saves.
Amador's Brace Highlights SMCC Men's Soccer Season Opener

Freshman Marcos Amador scored a pair of goals for the South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (0-1) in a 4-2 loss at Paradise Valley Community College in both teams' 2022 season opener on Friday, Aug. 19. Amador netted a goal in each half, Luis Verduzco recorded an assist and Jason Martinez made four saves as the Cougars returned to the competition field for the first time since the 2019 campaign.

For the first time since 2019, South Mountain Community College will field a men’s soccer team for the 2022 fall season. Cougar head coach Pedro Mendoza is excited to restart the program. SMCC has a roster of student-athletes ready to make their mark in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference.
