SMCC Men's Soccer Falls 4-2 at PVCC

PHOENIX ---

Freshmen Jason Diaz Mara and Marco Amador scored goals, but the South Mountain Community College men's soccer team fell 4-2 at Paradise Valley CC in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest on Sept. 20.

After PVCC took an early 1-0 lead, Diaz Mara headed home a free kick in the 13th minute to tie the match. Angel Valenzuela recorded an assist, his first of the year, on the play.

The teams went to halftime tied at 1-1 and SMCC struck early in the second half to take a 2-1 advantage. Conlan McCoy found a streaking Amador down the left side of the attack and he deftly touched the ball past a sprawling goalkeeper into the far netting. The goal was Amador's team-leading fourth of the season and McCoy registered his first helper of the year.

In goal, Jason Martinez started for SMCC and made six saves in 65 minutes of work. Max Melendez played the final 25 minutes for the Cougars and recorded a pair of stops.
