SMCC Men's Soccer Places Three on All-ACCAC Team
October 24, 2023
The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team placed three members on the 2023 All-ACCAC and All-Region I Division II honors, as voted upon by the league's coaches. Freshmen Atxel Medrano and Alfonso Maldonado received Second Team All-ACCAC honors, while sophomore Conlan McCoy received Honorable Mention All-ACCAC. All three earned a spot on the Second Team All-Region I Division II team.
SMCC Men's Soccer Falls to Pima CC

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-10-1, 1-8-1 ACCAC) lost 4-1 to Pima CC in an ACCAC contest in Tucson, Ariz., on Oct. 17. Freshman Brandon Soto scored his first goal of the season midway through the second half and finished with two shots.
SMCC Men's Soccer Falls to Scottsdale CC on Sophomore Day

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-9-1, 1-7-1 ACCAC) lost 4-1 to Scottsdale CC on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the SMCC Soccer Field. Freshman Josh Marin scored his second goal of the season in the second half to pull the Cougars within 2-1, but the Fighting Artichokes responded with two more goals to seal the victory. Before the match, the Cougars honored their sophomores participating in their final home match.
SMCC Men's Soccer Falls to Yavapai College

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-8-1,1-6-1 ACCAC) lost 4-1 to Yavapai College in an ACCAC contest at the SMCC Soccer Field on Oct. 10. The Cougars got on the board first courtesy of an own-goal by the Roughriders, but Yavapai answered with three goals in the first half and one in the second to post the 4-1 victory.
SMCC Men's Soccer Falls to Phoenix College

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-7-1, 1-5-1 ACCAC) lost 7-0 to Phoenix College in an ACCAC match on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Freshman Anthony Sauceda made three saves in goal for SMCC and sophomore Max Melendez added four as each played 45 minutes in goal.
Glendale CC Edges SMCC Men's Soccer

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-6-1, 1-4-1 ACCAC) lost 4-3 to Glendale CC in an ACCAC road match on Saturday, Sept. 30. Sophomore Marco Amador scored his first two goals of the season, and freshman Atxel Medrano added a goal, but the Cougars could not complete the comeback against the Gauchos.

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-5-1, 1-3-1 ACCAC) lost 4-1 to Eastern Arizona in an ACCAC soccer match at the SMCC Soccer Field on Saturday, Sept. 23. Freshman Axtel Medrano scored for SMCC in the first half, but the Gila Monsters struck for four goals in the second half to claim the conference victory.

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-4-1, 1-2-1 ACCAC) lost 5-0 to No. 2 Arizona Western in an ACCAC contest at the SMCC Soccer Field on Sept. 19. The Division I Matadors struck for two goals in the first half and three in the second to defeat the Cougars.
SMCC Men's Soccer Draws with Chandler-Gilbert CC, Falls to PVCC

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-3-1, 1-1-1 ACCAC) played to a 1-1 draw with Chandler-Gilbert CC on Saturday, Sept. 9, in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference match at the SMCC Soccer Field. Three days earlier, SMCC fell 3-2 at Paradise Valley CC in its 2023 ACCAC opener.
Cougar Men's Soccer Posts 3-0 Shutout Victory over Gateway CC

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (1-2-0, 1-0-0 ACCAC) defeated Gateway CC 3-0 on Friday, Sept. 6 in the Cougars' 2023 ACCAC and home opener. Scoreless at halftime, SMCC struck for three goals in the second half as Josh Marin, Atxel Medrano and Alfonso Maldonado scored to lift the Cougars to their first win of 2023.

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (0-2) lost 11-0 to Glendale CC in a non-conference game at Glendale CC on Aug. 29. SMCC finished with 10 shots in the match, putting nine on frame, as freshman Alfonso Maldonado led the team with three shots on goal.

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team (0-1-0) lost 9-0 to No. 8 Pima CC on Saturday, Aug. 26 in Tucson. Freshman Anthony Saurceda made for saves in net for SMCC, which is starting its second season under second-year head coach Pedro Mendoza.

The Cougars feature 14 returning letterwinners from the last season as they embark on their second season under the stewardship of head coach Pedro Mendoza.
