No. 3 SMCC Softball Sweeps Scottsdale CC to Conclude Regular Season

The No. 3 South Mountain Community College softball team (49-8, 43-5 ACCAC) defeated Scottsdale CC 8-0 (6 innings) and 9-6 in an ACCAC home doubleheader on May 6. Sophomore Annalise Chavez blasted a home run in both contests, and sophomore Anisa Reynolds and freshman Halle Hogan also went deep as the Cougars swept the Artichokes on Sophomore Day. 

Game One Recap

SMCC struck for three runs in the second and added a run in the fourth and the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. Reynolds roped a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to give the Cougars a run-rule victory. 

Sophomore Makaiya Gomez led SMCC with three hits and added a triple, two runs and an RBI. Chavez finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a solo home run, and freshman Iliana Munoz was 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a walk. 

Freshman Brianna Garcia scored a pair of runs and had an RBI and a walk, and sophomore Amaya Dasti posted an RBI single. 

In the circle, Reynolds posted her 18th win of the season with five innings of shutout softball. She fanned five, scattered three hits and walked none. Freshman Mykenzie Flores tossed an inning of relief and had a strikeout. 

Game Two Recap

In the second contest, the Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first. However, the Artichokes scored three runs in the third and tied the game at 5-5 with two runs in the fourth.

SMCC scored a run in the fourth to break the tie and added three in the fifth to take a 9-5 lead. SCC scored a run in the seventh before freshman Ademira Marquez recorded the final out. 

Hogan went 3-for-4 with two runs, three RBIs and missed the cycle by a triple. Reynolds was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Chavez was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. 

Gomez had a double and two runs, Garcia posted a run and two RBIs, and freshman Mia Franco had a pair of hits. Freshman Sadie West posted a double and run, and Munoz scored once with a stolen base. 

Marquez earned her sixth win with 3.1 innings of relief work. She worked around four hits and one earned run. Freshman Angelica Tello started the game for SMCC and went 3.2 innings with seven strikeouts and two earned runs.
