SMCC Softball Announces Four-Year Transfers

The South Mountain Community College softball program announced its four-year transfers after a historic 2023 season that saw the Cougars win the ACCAC and the Region I Division II Championship and participate in the 2023 NJCAA Division II World Series. 

Jessica Gordon --- Hawai'i Pacific University

One of six Cougar sophomores, Gordon will head to Honolulu to continue her intercollegiate softball career. 

A sophomore outfielder, Gordon appeared in 43 games and batted .319 with 23 runs, 29 hits, five doubles, four home runs, 26 RBIs, seven walks, and six stolen bases in 2023. She finished 4-for-5 with four runs, a double, two home runs and five RBIs in a home win over Yavapai College, setting season highs in runs, hits, and RBIs. Gordon also homered against Gateway CC and Paradise Valley CC and posted a .367 on-base and a .505 slugging percentage. 

The Hawai'i Pacific University Sharks are an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Pacific West Conference. 

Makaiya Gomez --- Grand Canyon University 

Gomez, the 2023 ACCAC Player of the Year, will transfer to nearby Grand Canyon University. After a historic offensive campaign, she also earned First Team NJCAA and NFCA First Team All-American honors. 

Gomez appeared in 64 games and batted .533 with 123 runs, 113 hits, 25 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs, 88 RBIs, 54 walks, and 28 stolen bases as the team's everyday centerfielder in 2023. She set new school single-season records for runs and walks and finished third all-time in RBIs, second in hits, and tied for fifth in doubles and home runs. Gomez had 32 multi-hit and 23 multi-RBI games and posted a .631 on-base and a .953 slugging percentage. 

The GCU Antelopes are an NCAA Division I program that competes in the Western Athletic Conference. 

Brianna Garcia --- University of Texas-El Paso 

A 2023 NJCAA and NFCA First Team All-American shortstop, Garcia will return home to El Paso to continue her intercollegiate career for the Miners.

She appeared in 64 games for SMCC in 2023 and batted .442 with 90 runs, 103 hits, 26 doubles, a triple, 29 home runs, 98 RBIs, 28 walks, and 10 stolen bases. She set a school single-season record for home runs and finished fourth all-time in hits, second in RBIs and runs, and tied for third in doubles. Garcia posted hitting streaks of 17 and 13 games during the year and had 30 multi-hit and 27 multi-RBI games.

The UTEP Miners are an NCAA Division I program that competes in Conference USA. 

Halle Hogan --- University of Texas-El Paso

The Cougars' primary first baseman in 2023 and an NJCAA Second Team All-American, Hogan will continue her intercollegiate career with the Miners.

She appeared in 58 games and batted .497 with 57 runs, 92 hits, 23 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs, 75 RBIs, 24 walks, and six stolen bases in 2023 as the Cougars won the NJCAA Region I Division II Title and advanced to the DII College World Series. Hogan tied for sixth in school history for hits and doubles, 12th in runs and home runs, eighth in RBIs, and 14th in walks. She sported a .977 fielding percentage in 217 chances and was a part of 13 double plays. 

Annalise Chavez -- California Lutheran University 

A two-year letterwinner for the Cougars, Chavez will return to her native California to compete for the Regals. 

Chavez appeared in 91 games in her SMCC career and batted .364 with 72 runs, 78 hits, 16 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs, 72 RBIs, 38 walks and four stolen bases. As a sophomore in 2023, Chavez played in 42 games, primarily as a catcher, and batted .347 with 34 runs, 34 hits, eight doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 24 RBIs and 20 walks. She went 5-for-8 with three runs, two doubles, two home runs and six RBIs in the Region I Division II Tournament and posted a .994 fielding percentage in 167 chances for the year. 

The Cal Lu Regals are an NCAA Division III program in Thousand Oaks, Calif. that competes in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. 

Anisa Reynolds --- California State University, Bakersfield 

An NFCA Second Team All-American, Reynolds will continue her intercollegiate career with the Roadrunners. 

A two-way threat for the Cougars, she finished with a .361 batting average, 59 runs and 69 hits in 60 games. She totaled eight doubles, 25 home runs, 78 RBIs and seven stolen bases. As a pitcher, Reynolds went 22-4 in the circle with 110 strikeouts and a 3.33 ERA in 159.2 innings. She tied for second in school history with 25 home runs and was seventh in RBIs and runs. She struck out a season-high 10 batters in a March 13 win over Kirkwood CC (IA) and had seven punch outs in a win at Central Arizona on February 23. Reynolds posted five multi-home runs games and blasted three in a home win over Glendale CC. 

The CSUB Roadrunners are an NCAA Division I program that competes in the Big West Conference. 

Amaya Dasti --- Park University-Gilbert

A two-year letterwinner for the Cougars, Dasti will transfer to NAIA Park-Gilbert (AZ) and serve as a team manager for the women's soccer program. She appeared in five games and collected two hits and an RBI in the 2023 season.
