SMCC Women's Basketball Falls to Central Arizona

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (0-3, 0-1 ACCAC) lost 91-47 to Central Arizona in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest at the SMCC Gym on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Freshman Mimi Miller led the Cougars with 18 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Jolie King finished with 10 points and three 3-pointers off the bench. 

SMCC trailed 46-19 at halftime and fell 45-28 in the second half. The Cougars shot 33.3 percent (15-of-45) from the field and 65 percent (13-of-20) from the free throw line. SMCC added 39 rebounds, 12 assists, and seven steals in the loss. 

Miller was 4-for-8 from the field and 9-of-10 from the charity stripe and added three assists in 36 minutes. King came off the bench to make 3-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc. She added two rebounds and two steals before fouling out in 28 minutes. 

Freshman Chloe Wiley and sophomore Miriam Traore each had five points for SMCC. Wiley added four rebounds, three steals and an assist, while Traore had five rebounds. 

Freshman Janae Byrd added four points, five rebounds and three assists, while freshman Valery Valezquez had four points, five rebounds, and two assists.
