SMCC Women's Hoops Falls in Road Conest at Yavapai College

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (0-4, 0-2 ACCAC) lost 95-71 to Yavapai College in an ACCAC game in Prescott, Ariz., on Dec. 6. Freshman Mimi Miller led SMCC with 14 points and 10 rebounds to post her first career double-double and sophomore Miriam Traore added 14 and freshman Chloe Wiley had 12 for the Cougars. 

The Cougars fell behind 25-12 after the first 10 minutes but came back to win the second quarter 26-20. However, Yavapai won the second half 50-33 to post the win. SMCC shot 32.8 percent (22 of 67) from the field and made nine 3-pointers. The Cougars made 18 of 25 free throws (72 percent) and recorded 10 steals.  

Miller was 5-of-11 from the field and knocked down two 3-pointers. She had three offensive rebounds and a steal in 27 minutes and is averaging 12.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in four contests. 

Traore was 4 of 10 from the floor and had a pair of 3-pointers. She knocked down four free throws and added seven rebounds and a steal in 23 minutes.

Wiley made three field goals, including two 3-pointers, and was 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. She added four steals and three rebounds in 19 minutes. 

Freshman Janae Byrd recorded nine points, three rebounds and a steal, and freshman Valery Valezquez had nine points off the bench. Sophomore Jolie King had five points and three rebounds off the bench, sophomore Daziane Stevenson had four points and three rebounds, and sophomore Hailey Connor had four points and one rebound.
