Mesa CC Edges SMCC Volleyball

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (4-19, 1-10 ACCAC) lost 3-2 (26-28, 17-25, 29-27, 25-14, 15-8) to Mesa CC in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference match on Oct. 15. Sophomore Mckenna Androsky had a season-high 22 kills and 14 digs and sophomore Nikole Lunsford led SMCC with 32 digs, but the Cougars could not hold off a Thunderbird rally after jumping out to a 2-0 lead. 

SMCC won the first two sets and totaled 15 kills while hitting .135. However, after a lengthy third set where they hit .200 on 62 attacks, the Cougars hit for negative percentages in the final two frames. In all, SMCC finished with 46 kills and 26 errors on 166 swings to finish the match with a .120 hitting percentage. They added 40 assists, 107 digs and nine service aces. 

Androsky hit .232 on 69 attacks and added a service ace. Lunsford finished with two service aces and posted her second-straight match with more than 30 digs. 

Freshman Madison Cadden was second on the team with nine kills, hitting .118 on 34 attacks. She added five digs and a block assist. Freshman Leilani Clark had eight kills, three digs and a team-high five block assists. 

Freshman Maddie Marcotte led SMCC with 38 assists and added 16 digs. Sophomores Claire Burford and Sienna Cumbie finished with 11 and 10 digs, respectively. 

Freshman Gabreya Garcia had four kills, two service aces, four digs and a team-high two solo blocks.
